My name is Bill.
I just moved to New Orleans. I took a year long position through the Digital Arts Service Corps at the Community Center of St Bernard Parish. I'm pretty excited.
I'm also a project based artist, here are some projects I have done/am doing.

November is American Indian and Alaska Native heritage month. I made an infographic in celebration of a culture that I sadly know almost nothing about. Full pdf here.

I had never even heard of MREs(Meals, ready to eat) before working in a food pantry, but apparently these things were given out like crazy after hurricane katrina. They are these air tight meals that are usually issued to people in the military because they basically don’t have an expiration date. They also come with this green bag that heats up almost instantly with just a little bit of water. The whole thing is very astronaut/space like. Especially the starwars font on the peanut butter.
Some Halloween infographics??? Full pdf here.
I have dreamed of this day, and it has come at last. All 100 Mellowtrons have now found new homes. Thank you anyone that adopted a Mellowtron, or just supported us throughout this project. I hope everybody is happy with their mellow robot and keep a lookout for Roxybot, she will be dancing onto the scene very soon…
Most of all the news that I have seen in New Orleans about St. Bernard usually ends up insinuating that people who live in the parish are racists. I decided to look up the demographics of the parish, and other parishes in Louisiana to see exactly the difference in population, and if that difference was abnormal. I added a little art into this one. full pdf here.
5 Mellowtrons remain. If you ever wanted a Mellowtron, now is the time. Once these 5 are gone, no more will ever be sewn. StuffedRobot.
I showed my supervisor some of the data-pictures I made and she had me make a general visual for the center as a whole. She sent this off to the Brown Foundation which is considering the Community Center for a grant. Full pdf.
2nd take on data art. I just finished surveying some of the Community Center residents about their social media habits and thought this might be some good data to visualize. Sorry the actual data might not be that interesting to the general public. Full pdf here.
After stumbling upon flowingdata.com and attending a seminar on how to use data to your advantage as a non-profit, I have been unabashedly obsessed with data visualization. At the Community Center where I work they tally just about everything they can, resulting in a huge amount of data in the form of confusing excel docs at the end of every month. I decided to use this data for the beginnings of my visualization experimentation. I used our Food Pantry’s data for my first statistical creation. Here is the pdf.
